Part of the Girls on the Run curriculum focuses on empowering girls to share their strengths and use their unique gifts to positively impact those around them. Our Girls on the Run team plans to demonstrate this through hosting a donation drive for the SPCA of Wake County. The SPCA see about 350 animals a month, so they are in constant need of supplies. The drive is going to be held from April 9th-April 27th.
These are the items that the SPCA of Wake County asked for:
Cat litter (scoop-able 35-40 lb. size)
Canned cat food (pate style)
High-quality meaty training treats for dogs (small morsel size)
Liquid laundry detergent
First-class forever postage stamps
-mClass testing has officially ended. I am so proud of the growth that the students have made in first grade already! Some students have already grown 5 reading levels! In order to keep the ball rolling this year, here are some things that I noticed:
TRC (Read leveled book and answer written response question) -Some students could fluently read grade level text, but had a hard time reading and deciphering what the written response question was asking them to do. -Some did not pass the level I nonfiction text, solely because of the written response questions. -Students have to get to a J by the end of the school year. They are going to have to learn how to inference. When you are reading with your child at home start asking them “why” questions. “Why is the character feeling that way?” “Why did they do that?” “Why did they say that?” “Why is this a good title for the book?”
Dibels (fluency passages and nonsense words) -Every child is currently on grade level or above for dibels fluency. -The end of the year the standard for fluency is higher. They have to read the passage in 1 minute and retell what they read. They have to be able to retell at least 3 sequential details. -At home start asking your child to retell what they read to you.
